ARTIST STATEMENT

Riley Anne

Art is many things. Expression, communication, creation, sharing of ideas. The different definitions and characteristics are diverse and endless. As an artist my goal is to be as diverse and well-rounded as possible. I am inspired by the many different genres and components the art world has to offer.  And because of that inspiration I have strived to pursue a variety of styles and mediums, not wanting to limit myself to one mode of expression.   
My abstracts are bright, and colorful. Much of the paint is applied with a pallet knife. I love that it allows me to create wild texture and masses of color. I am most interested in the behaviors and qualities of color and exploring those relationships without the constraints of replicating a specific form. The emotions associated with color also interest me greatly.  
My pen and watercolor works are largely focused on lettering and illustration. From classic tattoo style drawing to quote and bible verse illustration. I favor a delicate style with thin yet decisive lines and am especially inspired by bringing the famous quotes of others to life. My hope is to share the words that have inspired me with others through my art.   
As a child my mother always impressed upon me heavily the importance of living a life that was well rounded, with many different experiences and pursuing anything that interested me. As an artist that motivated me to pursue as many different mediums and forms of expression. To have a portfolio and body of work that’s diverse. Because that’s what art is, diverse, expansive, and unlimited.
